Sports Club " Walka " Makoszowy

While writing about Makoszowy, it is just impossible not to mention the sports club " Walka " Makoszowy, and especially its football players who were giving for many years excitement and pleasure to Makoszowy people. In 1919 a sports club " Jednosc " was founded in Makoszowy but after a year its name was changed into " Wolnosc ". The club consisted of a football team and a palant team ( similar to baseball ), the latter being very popular at that time. The first president of the club was Wawrzyniec Makselon. Upon the outbreak of the insurrection 1921, " Wolnosc " had to be closed down due to lack of money for supporting the football team. However, in 1922 the club came to exist again thanks to ex-players of " Walka " and true fans. The club continued to go on in spite of insufficient funds and equipment. People loved sport and were eager to help with collecting the necessary money or repairing the football field which was in very bad condition indeed. At the beginning the team was transported to matches on a platform driven by horses. The most important success of " Walka " players at that time was the advance ( in 1925 ) to the so-called league " B " which was an equivalent of Regional League now.
After the Second World War, " Walka " obtained a protector, namely the coal mine " Makoszowy ". In 1947 the team appeared in class " C " winning the first place and advancing to class " A ". " Walka " Makoszowy players advanced for the first time to Regional League in 1957. Unfortunately in 1958 their field had to be repaired, and the players had to play their matches in Pawlow on the field of " Piast ". This quickly led to a fall again to class " A ". Between 1967 and 1972 Makoszowy players were again in Regional League trying to win the championship there. People of Makoszowy were most happy when " Walka " finally scored the Province League after so many years of persistent attempts ! In 1973 a reorganization caused another fall of the team. Both the players and fans just had to cope with it. They advanced again to Interprovince League III in 1977. In 1980 another reorganization of Polish League caused a fall of " Walka " again. Three years later, i.e. in 1983, " Walka " joined League III thanks to:

Marian Liszka, Jan Mstowski - goalkeepers, Ryszard Weinstein, Zdzislaw Kowalczyk, Piotr Michalski, Piotr Schmidt, Wojciech Surowiec, Piotr Kastelski, Krzysztof Stojak - backs, Alojzy Deja, Jan Laburda, Stanislaw Szczotka, Jerzy Sobeczko, Dariusz Rozycki, Jerzy Waniek - helpers, Werner Wieczore, Zbigniew Soltysik, Leon Ratka, Marek Ranuszkiewicz - forwards. Coaches: Joachim Szoltysek, Andrzej Platek.
