Makoszowy was a independent settlement for a long time. In early decades of 19th century most of its inhabitants were farmers, but towards the end of the 19th century its character gradually changed into industrial, chiefly connected with coal mines, as Uppersilesian Industrial Region developed. In 1951 Makoszowy was annexed to Zabrze, and since that time it has been a district of Zabrze called Zabrze-Makoszowy. Makoszowy is located 4 km ( 2,5 mi.) away from Zabrze on Klodnica river with its two tributaries, Bielczanka and Czarnawka, surrounded with forests and ponds. Anglers like to fish here or just come and have a rest. There is one coal mine (built in 1906). There are about 2000 people. Easy communication with adjacent towns. Zabrze is one of 14 big towns in Uppersilesian Industrial Region. Located in Silesian Province, Poland, it has about 200,000 people. A settlement called Zabrze began to exist in the early 14th century. Since the end of the 18th century Zabrze has been a center of heavy industry, especially mining. Rapid development came in the late 19th century. Since that time Zabrze has been one of the biggest towns in Silesian region. Apart from industry, there are also a lot of cultural places here like a theatre (Teatr Nowy), music - and - dance hall (Dom Muzyki I Tanca), cinema - leisure - complex (Multikino), Philharmonic, Coal Museum, Sports Hause etc. Uppersilesian Industrial Region covers more than 2, 7 thousand square kilometres and has about 3 mln. people. It is the biggest urban-industrial region in Poland, consisting of 14 big towns like Katowice, Gliwice, Zabrze, Bytom, Sosnowiec.
